FUTMINNA 2014/2015 Online Registration for Admitted Candidates - How to Upload Document

All successfully admitted students of FUTMINNA whom have paid the acceptance fee can now upload their documents for clearance.

Candidates should visit the school's portal at: eportal.futminna.edu.ng.

- Candidates would then login as existing users using the student ID and password.

_ When login successfully candidates can now click on the "Academic Records" link on their page.

- Candidates can now upload their documents (I.e birth certificate, first and second sitting results, jamb result slip, referee letter etc) on the academic record page and fill other records. Documents are to to be scanned.

- other instructions are on the portal.

Note: Screening Exercise starts on 8 December, 2014.

LASU Management Extend 2013/2014 Students Online Registration

The University Management has again extended the deadline for the students online registration exercise for the Rain (2nd) semester of the 2013/2014 academic session by one week [Sunday, November 2-Sunday, November 9, 2014.], after the earlier extensions of Wednesday, October 22 to Monday, October 27, 2014 and Monday October 27 to Sunday November 2, 2014 respectively.

In line with the latest and final extension, Management has directed students who are yet to register, to ensure they complete their on-line registration within the stipulated period.

The approved University Calendar for the 2013/2014 academic session had earlier stated two (2) weeks [Wednesday, October 8 ¨C Wednesday October 22,
2014] as the period for the on-line registration exercise for the Rain semester.

The University Management hereby wishes the students and the entire University Community a hitch free and peaceful completion of the 2013/2014 academic session.

2014/2015 FUTMNINNA Pre-degree Online Registration Procedure

Below are Online Registration guidelines for pre-degree students 2014/201;

Visit www.futminna.edu.ng to print admission letter.

2. Proceed to CPES for physical screening and collection of PINs.

3. Login to the portal with your form number (username) and portal access PIN.

4. Click on ‘payment’ link at left pane of your portal.

- A payment information page will be generated for you to enter.

- Confirm these information and click on ‘submit’ to proceed to FUTMinna College paywindow.

Payment is done through Debit Card (MasterCard – Most preferred) or Verve and Interswitch mag stripe.

- Enter ATM Debit card details (Card number, expiry date, CVV2 i.e. the last 3 digits behind your card, and Card Pin number).

Note: This automatically debits your account with ₦75,000.00 for Pre-Degree Programme; and ₦115,200.00 for IJMB Programme. Also, ₦250.00 for bank commission is charged on each transaction.

-If payment is successful, the screen will display all the data you previously entered and a print button to print the payment document.

You should also click the acknowledgment slip link to print and complete the online registration.

5. Get subject’s combination PIN from CPES

6. Click on ‘course’ link; enter the PIN to complete course registration

7. Click on ‘upload’ link to upload scanned documents.

8. Click on ‘personal detail’ to complete the form.

Is Skill Acquisition of Any Importance - Why?

Skill is very important in the life of every citizen. The reason why many technicians earns more than some university graduates is because the technicians acquired more of skills than the theories the graduates were feed with when they were in universities. It can take you to places you do not expect you will ever find yourself. Skill acquisition is the ability to be trained on a particular task or function and become expert in it. It is a pity that there is ‘huge parading’ of unemployment in many parts of the world today.
 
Below is Hon. Joseph Gumbari's view towards skill acquisition;

There is no issue that should be addressed as a matter of urgent national importance than that of skills acquisition by the youth considering the failure of our basic education to yield the expected positive results with its attendant consequences such as armed robbery, military, kidnapping and a host of others.

This paper discusses the importance of skills acquisition in national development and suggests ways it can be encouraged in the country

Skill Acquisition

According to Encarta Dictionary (2009), a skill is seen as ability to do something well, usually gained through training or experience. Skill acquisition on the other hand involves the development of a new skill, practice or a way of doing things usually gained through training or experience. The types of skills that can be acquired by the youth include:

a. Vocational carpentry, hair dressing, fashion designing, tailoring etc; b. Mechanic, electrical, repairs of GSM handset, Wrist watches, air- conditioner etc; and c. Entrepreneurial (small scale business such as operation of kiosk, buying and selling of spare parts, restaurants etc).

Importance of Synergy between Skills Acquisition, Entrepreneurship and Self-Reliance.

If third World countries especially Nigeria must be economically self-reliant, they must necessarily diversify her economy and as well encourage the youth to embrace self-employment through appropriate favourable policy environment that would facilitate skills acquisition, entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

The importance of skills acquisition cannot be over-emphasized because its roles to national development are multi-dimensional but of particular mention are the following:

i. Elimination of hunger and poverty ii. Reduction or elimination of joblessness iii. Reduction of crime through effective engagement of youths (Diigbo: 1989).

Skills development has been man’s means of material transformation from the earliest of time. But for development to take place, according to Diigbo (1989), it takes trained hands and minds to apply the knowledge and techniques effectively. For example, in the medieval times, apprenticeship becomes a normal method of entry to a craft guild. The industrial revolution brought with it the factory system with far-reaching historical effects and increasing application of science and technology to goods manufacture and services with more emphasizes on industrial skills. These shifts demanded a wide spectrum of technical and professional personnel, craftsmen, technicians, engineers, production specialists, managers and so on.

In order to boost the skills of the Nigerian youths, the federal government established in 1987, National Directorate of Employment which has the following youth-friendly and inclined programmes.

i. Vocational Skills Development (i.e Fashion designing, furniture, carpentry, GSM repairs/maintenance, automechanic, foundry, metal works, iron bending etc); ii. Special public works programme; iii. Rural Employment Promotions and iv. Small Scale enterprises programme.

Others include the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) entrepreneurial Programmes, National Poverty Alleviation Programme, Industrial Training Fund to mention but few. The programmes are aimed at the acquisition of marketable and applied skills as well as basic scientific knowledge.

2015/2016 Official JAMB UTME Brochure Released Online

The Official JAMB Brochure for 2015/2016 UTME has been released online. The JAMB Brochure is a document detailing list of all Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria and available programmes of study for UTME and Direct Entry (DE) candidates.

The 2015/2016 JAMB brochure contains courses and programmes in Universities, other Degree-Awarding Institutions, Monotechnics, Polytechnics, Innovation Enterprise Institutes and Colleges of Education In Nigeria. It also contains guidelines for admissions to First Degree, National Diploma (ND), National Innovation Diploma (NID) and Nigeria Certificate In Education (NCE).

Candidates are advised to read the brochure carefully before filling the JAMB online registration form. This will, in addition to providing a guide on how to fill the JAMB application form, help you in making perfect choice of the courses you are best suited for.

NYSC Updates: National Assembly Finally Approves N4000 NYSC Online Registration Fee

Its is unsurprising that despite the initial call by the National Assembly for the suspension of the payment of the N4000 registration fee by Corpers, the house has made a U-Turn and finally approved the payment of the N4000 online registration fee for prospective youth corpers.
 
According to Leadership, the House of Representatives has finally approved the controversial N4,000 online registration fee for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. The decision reverses earlier House resolution urging the NYSC to suspend the policy following public outcry against the fee.
Chairman, House Committee on Youth Development, Kamil Akinlabi made the disclosure during a media chat at the National Assembly. Akinlabi explained that the fee will service a private sector driven build, operate and transfer agreement. He said the registration equipment will be installed at the NYSC offices nationwide.

The contractor handling the project is expected to recoup its investment within five years, Akinlabi stated at the briefing. The lawmaker said the process was approved by the Bureau of Public Procurement with a certificate of no objection. Akinlabi said, “From the onset, when the matter was brought to our attention, the first thing we felt was the way you are feeling but after constructive engagement, we discovered that it was an innovation that we can’t run from.

“First, it was not the responsibility of the NYSC to mobilise respective corps members to get their call-up letters, it is the responsibility of the parents. If somebody schooled in Lagos but lives in Kano and to get his call-up letter he has to travel to school, you discover that its time consuming, risky and very expensive.
“So what the NYSC has done is to partner with a consultant that is already handling similar projects for JAMB and WAEC that has eliminated similar risk to partner with them through a PPP arrangement. The PPP arrangement will be on Built, Operate and Transfer.

“The contractor would be responsible 100 per cent for the purchase and installation of every gadget that will be necessary to achieve that in all the 36 headquarters including FCT and in all local government headquarters as well as all orientation camps across the country.

On September 30, federal lawmakers launched an inquest into the controversial N4,000 online registration fee and consequently urged NYSC to suspend the policy.

Looks like the N4000 registration fee has come here to stay and prospective corpers just have to pay unless as Nigerian we know what would happen next.

2014/2015 UNIZIK ADMISSION LISTS TO NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

Prospective candidates that participated successfully in the 2014/2015 Post UTME Screening of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka (UNIZIK) are hereby informed that the authorities of the university have commenced the process of uploading the lists of admitted candidates on the university's website.
 
Candidates that were able to check their Post UTME results online without downloading the general results raw files should keep on checking their admission status by logging on to my.unizik.edu.ng after which they should click on the 'Check Admission Status' link on the site and enter their 2014 JAMB UTME registration numbers.

DISCLAIMER: Candidates should note that due to the fact that the uploading of the lists are yet to be completed, 'INVALID REGISTRATION NUMBER' may be displayed as of now if they enter their registration numbers to check their admission status. The uploading is expected to be completed SOON.

UNILORIN DELIVERS FIRST ONLINE LECTURE

Students of the University of Ilorin will soon have the rare opportunity of receiving lectures on their hand-held devices and computers as the institution partners with Globacom on eLearning. The platform will be powered by Globacom's superfast Glo 1 Submarine cable, it's nationwide microwave infrastructure and the company's pan Nigeria optic fiber ring.
 
Globacom's Chief Commercial Director, Mr. Prabhat Aggarwal announced this when he received a ten-man delegation led by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulganiyu Ambali, who paid a courtesy call to Globacom's Corporate Headquarters in Lagos recently.

"We already have an electronic learning (eLearning) template that can put all faculty curriculum, lecture notes and cached teaching sessions for up to five years on the intranet or internet for the academic community to access at will and from anywhere," Mr. Aggarwal stated.

He said Globacom will offer video streaming, local intranet and extranet, web-based learning plus teleconferencing facilities which can create a live connection between students in a class and a lecturer from anywhere in the world and provide the University of Ilorin community with internal communication solutions.
Mr. Aggarwal said the partnership would take tertiary education in the country to a higher level and give the much needed impetus to e-learning, adding that Glo has robust partnerships with oil and gas companies, banks, manufacturers, food and beverage factories and government establishments.

Discussing with top management of the telecoms firm during the visit, Ambali described Globacom as the number one telecommunications service provider in the country with the capacity to deliver end-to-end solutions for every sector of the economy.

He said that Globacom had changed the face of the telecoms industry in Nigeria with its huge investments in technology.

Globacom is the official telecoms partner of the University of Ilorin, providing direct and exclusive internet connection to the whole university community. Ambali applauded the existing relationship the institution already has with the company and requested that the relationship be upgraded to meet the demands of teaching in the internet age.

NYSC 2014 Batch ‘C’ Online Registration & Printing of Call-Up Letters

• The Management of NYSC wishes to inform the general public and Nigerian graduates (both foreign and locally trained) in particular, that with effect from 2014 Batch ‘C’ mobilisation exercise, mobilisation processes will be online.
• 
• All Prospective Corps Members are required to register online at the NYSC portal, www.nysc.org.ng or portal.nysc.gov.ng or go to www.nysc.gov.ng to link the portal. Please note that information on accredited registration centres nationwide is available on the home page www.nysc.org.ng.
• All graduates from Nigerian Universities, Polytechnics/Monotechnics and those affiliated to them (whether full-time or part-time) are expected to carry out their biometric-enabled online registration using their Matriculation Numbers and JAMB Registration Numbers. Also, those for Revalidation (i.e. prospective corps members who were mobilized earlier but for one reason or the other could not report for the orientation course) must equally register online.
• All prospective corps members are to register online. Those who wish to get their Call-up numbers by SMS/email and subsequently print their Call-up letters online are to pay the sum of Four Thousand Naira (₦4,000.00) using any Bank’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) Cards or the PIN Vending option from any bank in Nigeria.
• The feature allows them to print and reprint their call-up letters online in case of loss of call-up letters and also facilitates accelerated camp processing at the Orientation camps.
• However, those who wish to collect their call-up letters from their Institution need not pay the Four Thousand Naira (₦4,000.00) after the online registration. Meanwhile, members of the public should know that with effect from 2015 Batch ‘A’ all prospective Corps members have to print their Call-up letters online.
• The online registration for NYSC 2014 Batch ‘C’ service will commence on the 20th August 2014 and end on 12th October 2014.
