Apply for the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Essay Competition for 2014/2015. The NCC essay contest is for undergraduates of tertiary institutions in Nigeria. The NCC hereby invites applications from all qualified members of the public to apply for the contest.

The 2014 NCC Essay Competition Methodology

• Undergraduates will submit essays not more than 2500 words.
• The essays must have an Abstract, Introduction, Main body and Conclusion with references.
• Essay must have references.
• Participants must sign an undertaking stating the originality of their essays.
• First 500 entries representing undergraduates from the Institutions (Private and Public) across the country.
• Winning essays will be selected based on content, grammar and style.
• The winning essays will be announced by the First Quarter 2015.

2015 Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition for Students

2015 Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition for Students invites business strategic deep thinkers and  global visionary undergraduate, college and polytechnic students around the world to apply for US$60,000 and business development opportunities.

The eighth biennial Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition, an event named after Singapore’s first Prime Minister who’s widely recognised as a strategic thinker and a global visionary. Organised specially for undergraduate, college and polytechnic students around the world, the competition continues to be a platform for entrepreneurs of tomorrow. Participants will be able to showcase their business plans and entrepreneurial talents on a global stage, attract seed funding to further their business ambitions as well as extend their network of friends and business contacts through the Competition.

Eligibility

The Competition is open to all full-time university undergraduates, college and polytechnic students
(participants who are university undergraduates, college or polytechnic students during the period of 1st January 2015– 20 August 2015 are eligible to participate).
Winners of similar competitions are invited to participate if they meet the requirements above.

Competition Requirements
* Participants are required to submit a business plan for a start-up or early stage venture. Proposals for merger/acquisitions of an existing company,consulting projects or licensing arrangements are not eligible.
* An existing business is only eligible if it has received less
than US$80,000 in funding and has less than US$100,000 in gross revenue as at 31st January 2015 .
* All submitted materials must be the original work of the participating team. A declaration to this effect will need to be submitted along with your proposal (Click here to download declaration form).

Each team is eligible to submit one idea. In the event of multiple submissions by a team the last submission made by the team will be considered for evaluation.

Confidentiality

Participants retain all proprietary rights to the business plans. Copies of the business plans will only be circulated for judging purposes, and any hard copies will be returned by the judges to SMU after the judging is completed. All business plans received for the Competition will then be deleted and destroyed. All other requests for the business plans will be directed back to the participants.

Audio and video recordings of the Final Presentations will be made for SMU’s archival and competition’s promotions purposes, and will not be circulated to other parties without prior consent.

A one page summary (to be contributed by the team) of the business plans that reach the Semi-Final will be featured in the souvenir booklet, which will be distributed at the Final, as well as targeted media releases.

The media will be invited to attend the Final Round. Any media requests will be directed back to the teams.

Although the agencies respect the propriety rights of the participants and will endeavour to protect their rights, the organiser will not enter into any non-disclosure statements of agreements with any parties.

Submission Requirements

Submissions for all stages:

To ensure fair and unbiased judging, business plans must NOT contain, anywhere, the names of the students, contact details and the names of their institutions. Should any of these details are to be found in your business plans, your submission will be DISQUALIFIED. We assure all participants that we are able to track efficiently and effectively the progress of all business proposals without errors.
NB:All business plans and presentations are to be in the English language.

Essay Competition: Africa Union Commission Africa Youth Day

African Union Commission invites young Africans to submit an essay of not more than 1500 words, which identifies and makes the case for policy measures to support the empowerment of young women. Entries are encouraged to be evidence-based, drawing on experiences of the writer or other individuals or institutions.
Women account for about half of Africa’s talent base.
 
As a group, they have been marginalized and their economic, social, political and environmental contributions go in large part unrealized, underutilized and undervalued. Poverty and HIV/AIDS still carry a female face. Women’ education is often sacrifice because of various socio-economic and cultural reasons and women are among the most affected by conflicts and violence. Empowering their participation in the community and the workforce greatly increases economic growth, reduces poverty, enhances societal well-being, and helps ensure sustainable development in all countries.

It is against this background that the African Union Heads of State and Government have dedicated next year, 2015, as the “Year of Women’s Empowerment and Development towards Africa’s Agenda 2063″. As a prelude to these celebrations, the African Union Commission is celebrating this year’s Africa Youth Day under the theme:

‘Delivering on the Potential of Africa’s Young women.’
 Celebrated on the 1st of November, The African Youth Day aims to promote an increased recognition of youth as key agents for social change and economic growth in all aspects of African society. The event also aims to contribute and channel the youth motivation, energy and idealism to reinforce the efforts towards the achievement of a sustainable development in the Africa.

 To open up this discourse, the African Union Commission invites young Africans to submit an essay of not more than 1500 words, which identifies and makes the case for policy measures to support the empowerment of young women. Entries are encouraged to be evidence-based, drawing on experiences of the writer or other individuals or institutions.

ELIGIBILITY
The competition is open to young people (18-35) from African Union Member States.
-Only one essay is allowed per entrant.
– Essays should be submitted in any of the AU languages I.e English, French, Portuguese and Arabic
– Photographs and other illustrations that enhance the article are welcome, although these must be original to the author and be copyright free.

BENEFITS
– Finalists will be invited to celebrate the African Youth Day at the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and engage with Ministers of Youth from across the continent.
– Winning essay shall be published and presented at various high level policy meetings in 2015.

UBA 2014 Foundation National Essay Competition in Nigeria

UBA Foundation, the CSR arm of the United Bank for Africa, is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2014 edition of the National Essay Competition amongst senior secondary school students in Nigeria. Winners will get educational grants to study in any African University of their choice.

The Essay Competition is a follow upon the Read Africa® initiative of the Foundation, which involves giving out literature books to secondary school students to help rekindle the dwindling reading culture amongst the youths in Africa. The programme also involves mentoring and reading sessions with the students.

FARA Essay Competition for African Students 2014

Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa Agriculture Essay Competition (Win $1,000 and a Sponsored trip to South Africa)

Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa, Agriculture Essay Competition has announced this competition for applicants to Submit essay for a chance to win $1,000 and be hosted in South Africa with a representative of their  tertiary institution.
