Fedral Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, Mass Communication Department to Start Soon

The much awaited Department of Mass Communication of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti, (EkitiPoly) is expected to kick off at the beginning of the 2014/2015 session. This was disclosed by the Rector of the Institution, Dr Theresa Taiwo Akande when the Management team of The Radio Nigerian Progress FM, Ado Ekiti, led by its General Manager, Pastor Kayode Akinsola, paid the school a courtesy visit.

Akande said, “Equipment and other infrastructural facilities for the smooth take off of the department are already on ground and their installation is ongoing”. She said the School is also awaiting Resource Visitation from relevant authorities and institutions.

The Rector who described the Media as a very powerful tool of Communication, especially the Radio, because of its ubiquitousness urged the Manager of the Station to remain neutral in dealing with members of the public especially now that Ekiti State is about to hold its gubernatorial election.

She also implored the media to act as the conscience of the people which must learn to put political Leaders on their toes and make them accountable to the people.
In his address, Pastor Akinsola noted that the purpose of the visit among others was explore areas of mutual benefits between the Institution and Radio Nigeria. He therefore implored the Management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti to work out a synergy to achieve these objectives, between the two Federal Agencies.

Also the School had been commended for maintaining a crime-free record. The new Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Felix Uyana made this known during his familiarization visit to the Management of the Institution which he described as a major stakeholder in the business of security in the State.
Mr Felix Uyanya implored Students in Ekiti State not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs during the forthcoming governorship election in the State.

The Rector of the Institution, Dr Theresa Akande, in her remarks welcomed the new Commissioner of Police to the State, praying that the Lord will grant him a successful stay in Ekiti State. Akande pledged the Institution’s support for the successful policing of the state, stressing that the Students and Staffs of the Polytechnic are law abiding Citizens. She also used the opportunity to table some security challenges being faced by the Institution before the Commissioner of Police requesting for his quick intervention.

Finally, she advised the State Police Force to always be at alert especially now that the state is in the build up process of its gubernatorial election.

AAU Political Science Department Gutted by Fire

The Political Science Department of the Faculty of Social Science of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma was gutted by fire Thursday night (8th May) at around 9.47pm. The cause of the fire is not known but the building was razed down and millions of Naira worth of properties and documents have been destroyed.

The students from the resident hostels situated inside the campus came out to put off the fire.
