Student of Delta State Poly Sentenced to Death for Robbery

Eguono Akpeghughu, A 22-year old student of Delta State Polytechnic has been sentenced to death by a high court in Warri for robbery charges.

He was found guilty on a two-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and armed robbery after he was alleged to have robbed his victim of cash and other valuables worth over N30, 000.

According to the court, the prosecution proved essential ingredients of armed robbery against the accused beyond all reasonable doubt from the totality of evidence presented before the court.

He was said to have been arrested with the help of a passerby as he attempted to escape with his loot and raised alarm while his other gang members escaped.

Asup Strike Updates: Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa Pulls out

The Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa has also joined the list of the polytechnics that pulled out of the ASUP strike.

The school consequently will resume academic activities on June 9th 2014.

Below is the list of some of the polytechnics that has pulled out of the ASUP strike so far:
* The Federal Polytechnic, Bida
* Akanu Ibiam, Federal Polytechnic Uwana
* Federal Polytechnic, Kebbi
* Hussaini Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure in Jigawa State.
* Federal Polytechnic, Nekede

Just like the comment of a polytechnic student reads,
"what then is ASUP striking for when all the polytechnics are opting out one by one? I seriously believe that even Dr Chibuzo is tired of this ASUP strike but he is wondering how to just end the fruitless strike with shame."

"Please end this nonsense. They don’t even know what they wanted. student were fooled that ASUP was fighting for them. what a waste of time! God please help Nigeria."

ASUP Strike Updates: Students of YABATECH Beaten and Arrested by the Police

Report has it that about 50 students of the Yaba College of Technology, YABATECH who took to the streets to protest the ongoing strike by ASUP and the government’s insensitivity to it were beating up and arrested by the police.

According to the report, even the buses that were carrying the protesting students were badly damaged.
One Mr. Segun Akinpelu, a journalist with Sahara Reporters was also beaten while his camera and other gadgets were destroyed.

The spokesperson of the Joint Action Front, whose members joined the students during the protest has condemned the attack on the students saying that it is a pointer to the fact that the government is not even ready to resolve the issue.
